Two ears, one mouth, can’t lose

Two ears, one mouth, can’t lose

This short article (I think I'll call these shorticles from now on) was originally posted on Medium in February 2017

I’m an introvert, and many years ago someone gave me some advice that resonated, and has stuck with me:

“You have two ears and one mouth, so listen twice as much as you speak”

I carry this with me and it’s become something that has characterized me on a daily basis, especially in my work.

Empathy is one of the greatest (and hardest) traits to have in a design and design leadership role, and the only way you can empathize is through listening and trying to understand people's perspectives.

How can I listen if I’m always talking?

How can I learn if the only voice I hear is my own?
